Regional Focus – Global Highlights

h2  Switzerland

Switzerland consistently ranks as one of the world’s most energy-efficient economics. At the end of 2009 Swiss sustainable/cleantech investment market was approximately $30 billion. As a result of such heavy investment and friendly government regulations, the Clean technology sector continues to grow, reaching a volume of 3 trillion Swiss francs by the end of 2020.

h2  China

China’s record spending on its wind industry this quarter represented nearly half of all funds in new wind projects around the world. Such heavy investment has insured that approximately one in every two wind turbines to go live will be in China.

h2  USA

The USA which topped the indices between November 2006 and May 2010, is now five points behind the ascendant China. The continued repercussions of the financial crisis, low gas prices and the uncertain medium- to-long term policy environment have prompted a one point fall this quarter, while China rose two points.

h2  South Korea and India

South Korea leads the new entrants to secure 18th position, on its ambitious targets, strong incentives, and robust supply chain. Elsewhere in the global economy, India gained a point following the completion of regulations for the trading of renewable energy certificates (RECs) by seven Indian states, with another nine having now prepared drafts.
